Scope of the Course :


The Sound Design course attempts to exercise and develop the conceptual, compositional, and technical skills of a sound designer through a set of practical design opportunities that together provide a solid professional training experience. “Sound” is considered extremely useful for enhancing the visual impact of a film and television programme. Creative use of sound in the form of dialogues, music and atmospheric sound has been used effectively for long in cinematic presentation of a story. Equipment including recorders, amplifiers, mixers, equalizers, compressors and other signal processing units can improve or alter sound quality suitably for story telling. The professionals having these skills are in demand.


Apart from giving the theoretical topics like parameters of audio quality, factors governing audio recording, application of microphones, creative use of music / effects, commentary recording, need for post-production and its procedures. Participants will be carrying out the complete operations themselves during the first week to understand the procedure thoroughly. Later on, participants will be carrying out the post-production procedure with more no. of tracks in association with the specialized audio personnel to achieve the required results, making effective use of the elements of sound track i.e. voice, music, effects and silence.


The course would cover all fundamental aspects of the use of sound in media programme. This course would assist the students in working with sound recording equipments and in learning sound production techniques. Lectures, discussion, demonstrations in class exercises and analysis of sound tracks will be covered during the course.


Objective of the Course :

  1. To analyze and achieve required professional sound quality from given equipments.

  2. To think in terms of sound and build up a sound track for media productions.

  3. To plan and select appropriate sounds for effective communication

  4. To lay the track according to planning

  5. To balance and mix the sound track as per aesthetic requirements of the production.

Minimum Eligibility : 12th Standard

(Preference may be given to participants having

Higher education and experience in Sound

Recording or relevant field)

Selected candidates should send the fees by Demand Draft (Nationalized Bank) drawn in favour of “Accounts Officer, FTII” payable at Pune. Selected Candidates should confirm their course participation accompanied with the Demand Draft of Rs 20,000/- (Rs Twenty Thousand only) so as to reach latest by 21st May, 2013 on the following address
